Charles Thomas
Independent Director
Charles Thomas is an independent director at Calderwood, where he accepts appointments on the boards of investment funds and other related structures, advising on all aspects of governance and compliance. He has served as an independent director for over 10 years and has more than 20 years’ experience in financial services during which time he has worked with many of the industry’s leading investment managers and prominent financial institutions.
Biography

Prior to joining Calderwood, Charles was a Senior Vice President at the Maples Group in the Cayman Islands where he was part of the senior management team in the Fund Fiduciary division. In this role, he served as an independent director on a wide range of alternative investment funds, including fund of funds, hedge funds, private equity funds and segregated portfolio companies, advising on all aspects of governance and compliance

After relocating to the Cayman Islands from the UK in 2005, Charles initially worked with Butterfield Fulcrum Group (Cayman) Limited, managing the fund of funds group, which administered over US$15bn in assets. Earlier in his career, he worked for Merchant Investors Assurance Company in senior fund accounting positions since 2001.

Charles graduated from the University of the West of England with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Finance. He is a chartered accountant and a fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. In addition to being an Accredited Director of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Canada, he is a Registered Professional Director with the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority and is an executive committee member of the Cayman Islands Directors Association.
